The Hairless Guinea Pig

The Skinny Pig is truly a unique breed of guinea pig that you most likely won’t see around. In the past decade, more and more owners have begun to raise this increasingly popular hairless guinea pig. Hairless guinea pigs are a category of guinea pigs and not so much a breed. There are in fact two breeds that fall into the hairless guinea pigs category: the Skinny Pig and the Baldwin Guinea Pig. The only real difference between a Skinny Pigs and other guinea pig breeds is the appearance.

Among all the guinea pig breeds, the Skinny is one of the newest. Using a cross between a hairless lab strain and haired guinea pig, scientists were able to breed the Skinny Pig. Hairless guinea pigs, including the Skinny, aren’t really physiologically different than their haired counterparts. A Skinny Pig and a haired Skinny Pig gene carrier will result in a 50% chance of having at least one hairless pig. Lastly, breeding a Skinny pig with a Baldwin guinea pig will result in no hairless puppies surprisingly.

Before doing your research on breeders, I would locate your nearby guinea pig rescues and check there first. Saving a guinea pig from a rescue is by far the best way in finding a guinea pig and should always be the first place you look.

You May Soon Be Eating These Gene-Edited Pigs

Mention Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome to a pig farmer, and they will surely shudder. The virus isn’t that damaging to the grown pigs, but it can completely devastate a herd’s reproductive success. It costs the pig industry in Europe and the United States about $2.5 billion a year. Now scientists have managed to produce pigs that can resist the virus. The virus infects pigs’ cells through a specific receptor on the cells’ surface called CD163.

So scientists at the University of Edinburgh’s Roslin Institute and Genus PLC, an animal genetics company, clipped that small section out of the CD163 gene. When they exposed these gene-edited pigs to PRRS, the virus didn’t take. The pigs didn’t get sick and their blood tests showed no signs of infection. Genetic modifications involve inserting other species’ genes into an animal or a plant to give them certain characteristics they naturally don’t have. Such genetically modified animals are banned from the food chain in Europe.

It’s not yet clear what regulations may apply to such animals. With such a compelling business case for allowing these PRRS-resistant animals into the food chain, the policy and approval deliberations will follow very soon.

Porky Pig is an animated cartoon character in the Warner Bros. Porky only has a minor role in the film, but the fat little stuttering pig easily stole the show. Unlike previous Looney Tunes characters before him such as Bosko or Buddy, Porky was a distinctive character. Actually, Friz Freleng claims to have given Porky Pig the stutter. In 1964, Porky got his own Saturday morning cartoon, The Porky Pig Show which ran until 1967.

Another such collection was the 1986 film, Porky Pig in Hollywood, which ran in art and college theaters. In the 1990s animated series Tiny Toon Adventures, Porky appears as the mentor of Hamton J. Pig. Porky appears in the movie Space Jam and collaborates with Bugs Bunny and the rest of the other major Looney Tunes characters in challenging the Nerdlucks to a basketball game. Porky is the star of the Super NES video game Porky Pig’s Haunted Holiday.

A baby version of Porky appears in Baby Looney Tunes’ musical numbers. Porky has a descendant in Loonatics Unleashed named Pinkster Pig who started off as an old ally of Danger Duck, but became a villain when he was adopted by Stoney and Bugsy. Porky Pig will appear in Wabbit voiced again by Bob Bergen.

Hair and Beauty Evolution

Fatty acids are needed to grow hair and nails, as well as helping other processes in our body to function properly. The downside is that your dog might eat or swallow these parasites after licking, since a flea dip stays on the dog’s hair coat. The protein in flea saliva can cause an allergic reaction and severe dermatitis, resulting in permanent hair loss skin problems. Hair fall is also caused when the hair is dry and damaged and too weak to sustain itself. In such a case, you may use a hair pack for dry hair.

Simply apply honey on all of your hair, and ensure that each hair strand is well coated. Cover your hair with a shower cap and allow your hair to absorb the mixture for about fifteen minutes. Rinse your hair off with warm water thereafter, and find your hair smoother and easier to manage. Just getting your hair to a manageable state will reduce your hair fall drastically. We lose 20 and 100 hair each day without noticing it.

Proper hair care can give you fabulous, shining, thick, beautiful, gorgeous, and dandruff free hair. Home made beauty recipes like hair care, dandruff care and hair loss based on herbs and natural ingredients help improve the hair.
